ATTICA, Athens. Circa 454-404 BC. AR Tetradrachm (23mm, 16.78 g, 8h). Helmeted head of Athena right, with frontal eye / Owl standing right, head facing, closed tail feathers; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. Starr pl. XXIII, 10’; Kroll 8; HGC 4, 1597; Kraay & Hirmer 359 (dies by the same hand). Good VF, toned, slight granularity, light double strike on reverse.


The style of this piece suggests that it was struck very early in the long classical period production that lasted from circa 454-404 BC.
