Allen’s die study of the coinage in his 2006 article places this coin among those bearing the name Willem, but not Willem G. His placement appears to be predicated on a supposed reverse die link to EMC 1994.0284, but a close comparison of the coins reveals that while the dies are close, they are not the same. On this coin, an N is visible at both 9 and 10 o’clock, while the two Ns on the EMC coin are positioned at 8 and 9 o’clock. Allen also incorrectly places an F at the end of the legend, but clearly the letter is the R in NOR. In sum, while the G is not visible after Willem’s name, there is clearly more than sufficient space to contain this letter (and more) before the joining ON.
