Moneyer issues of Imperatorial Rome. Mn. Cordius Rufus. 46 BC. AR Denarius (23mm, 3.55 g, 9h). Rome mint. Diademed head of Venus right / Cupid riding dolphin right. Crawford 463/3; CRI 65; Sydenham 977; Cordia 3; Type as RBW 1608. Good VF, toned. Fascinating rotated double strike.
From the Andrew McCabe Collection. Ex RBW Collection Duplicate, purchased by him from Gorny – Giessener Münzhandlung retail (8 December 1989) .
The most extensive double strike coin I've ever seen, this Cordia denarius has two complete obverses and two complete reverses, back to back on the same sides, on a massive flan. The Cordia, Considia, and Carisia types are often mis-struck; this is merely an extreme. [Andrew McCabe]
