Anonymous. 211-210 BC. Æ Triens (24mm, 8.89 g, 7h). H series. Mint in southeast Italy. Helmeted head of Minerva right; •••• (mark of value) above / Prow of galley right; ROMA above, H to right, •••• (mark of value) below. Crawford 85/4; Sydenham 175b; Type as RBW 354. VF, dark brown surfaces, rotated double strike on the reverse.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection. Ex RBW Collection Duplicate; Aes Rude Titano 36 (26 November 1988), lot 87.

An unusally clear example of a double struck bronze. The H series of bronzes and other bronzes from Apulia are discussed, with many new conclusions, in the write-up to my 2015 Taormina International Numismatic Convention talk, here: https://www.academia.edu/37548980/McCabe_Roman_bronze_coinage_struck_in_Apulia_and_South_East_Italy_during_second_Punic_war.pdf [Andrew McCabe]
