EASTERN EUROPE, Imitations of Roman Republican. Geto-Dacians. After 104 BC. AR Denarius (16.5mm, 3.55 g, 7h). Imitating obverse of Appuleius Saturninus or C. Coelius Caldus, reverse of an anonymous issue or Rome. Helmeted head of Roma left / Roma seated right on pile of shields, holding spear; birds in flight to upper left and right; to lower right, she-wolf standing right, head left, suckling the twins Romulus and Remus. Davis Class A, Group II, M104 (this coin). For prototype: cf. Crawford 317/3 or 318/1 (obv.) and 287/1 (rev.). Near VF, toned.
