Steatite cylinder seal. Neo-Assyrian, circa 9th century BC. A bearded man faces right, hands raised in supplication before an incense burner and a nimate and radiant Ishtar facing left, with hands raised. A plant and star is behind. Between worshipper and incense burner, two crossed (cuneiform) wedges above a rhomb. Height: 30mm. Minor chip. An attractive piece. Rare with pseudo-cuneiform wedges. Cf. Collon (BMC Neo-Assyrian & Neo-Babylonian) 131 for a similar Ishtar scene.
