PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Ptolemy II Philadelphos. 285-246 BC. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 14.13 g, 12h). Ptolemaïs (Ake) mint. Dated RY 34 (252/1 BC). Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis around neck / Eagle with closed wings standing left on thunderbolt; to left, monogram above MΕ; to right, ΛΔ (date) above Θ. Svoronos 778; SNG Copenhagen 473; Noeske –. VF, toned, a few marks and scratches, some light smoothing.
This coin is not one of the imitations as cataloged by Cathy Lorber in her 2013 Israel Numismatic Research article, as the monogram is clearly ME versus ΛΕ on the imitations.
