PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Ptolemy II Philadelphos. 285-246 BC. AR Tetradrachm (25mm, 14.21 g, 12h). Sidon mint. Dated RY 39 (247/6 BC). Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis around neck / Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; to left, ΣI above Δ; to right, ΛΘ above monogram. Svoronos 756 var. (lower left control mark); DCA 21; CGB 36, lot 260 = CGB 29, lot 47 (same obv. die); Heritage 441, lot 50077 (same dies); Roma E-Sale 4, lot 340 (same dies). Good VF, toned, some roughness, small die break on reverse. Very rare, Svoronos located only a single example of his no. 756, in Athens, but none of this variety is published in the standard references, and only three in CoinArchives.
