IONIA, Uncertain. 5th century BC. AR Tetartemorion (5mm, 0.22 g). Head of eagle right / Wreath in incuse square. CNG E-311, lot 766 = Elsen 109, lot 176; CNG 88, lot 340; Hauck & Aufhäuser 15, lot 164; otherwise unpublished. See also SNG Kayhan 746, Rosen 406, and Gemini IV, lot 180 for a larger denominations from the same issue. VF. Very rare.

Although previously attributed to Themistokles in Gemini IV, K. Konuk notes (in SNG Kayhan 746) that A. Wenninger (who co-authored the study on Themistokles in JNG 1998/99) rejects the idea that these could be issues of that ruler. Similarly, although previously given to Magnesia in CNG 88 and Hauck & Aufhäuser 15, the known obverse types (head of eagle and head of lion) are not specific enough to assert such an attribution.
