SICILY, Syracuse. Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. AR Tetradrachm (22mm, 17.21 g, 9h).
Unsigned dies in the style of Eukleidas. Struck circa 405-400 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving fast quadriga left; above, Nike flying right, crowning charioteer with wreath; in exergue, dolphin right / Head of Arethusa left, hair in bands, wearing double-loop earring and plain necklace with frontal pendant; four dolphins around. Tudeer 92 (dies 33/64); HGC 2, 1345; SNG ANS 297 (same dies); Dewing 857–8 (same dies); Jameson 808 (same dies). Near VF, toned, struck with worn obverse die.
