THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ Diassarion (20mm, 7.12 g, 2h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Warrior advancing right, holding spear and shield. Burrer,
MA–G 14 = BCD Thessaly II 967.5 (same obv. die as 967.2, a triassarion). VF, dark green patina, roughness. Rare.
From the BCD Collection.
A note from BCD from the Triton sale: The warrior reverses were few and far between in the Thessalian Provincial series. One wonders what was the the reason for their appearance as they do not seem to signal a change in the standard denominations.
