317, Lot: 579. Estimate $200.
Sold for $140. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Steatite scaraboid. Western Semitic, Phoenician(?), 8th–7th century BC. Scaraboid with two faces and bidirectional piercing. On one side: a scorpion facing downward; crescent moon to upper right. On opposite: a bearded supplicant, similar to Neo–Babylonian glyphos, with hands outstretched; Rhomb behind. Dimensions: 17x13mm. Intact, but the side with supplicant is quite worn, suggesting that it is possibly older than the second face.

From the David Hendin Collection.
