BURMA, Pyu City–States. Circa AD 450-600. AR Unit of 80 Rattis (30mm, 9.34 g, 1h). ‘Rising Sun’ coinage. Sun rising over horizon (radiate third eye of Siva Trinetra) / Temple of Srivatsa; moon and sun above, clockwise swastika to left,
Damaru to right. ATEC 5609. VF, lightly toned.
The “rising sun” coinage displays a remarkable uniformity appropriate for a type of trade coinage for the Pyu region. Production of the coinage ceased with the change of the capital from Beikthano to Srikshetra.
