Anonymous. 9th-10th centuries. Æ Medallion (58mm, 32.88 g, 12h). Uncertain scene, possibly The Transfiguration: Christ(?) standing facing, raising right hand in benediction and holding volumen(?) in left, surrounded by figures in adoration / Patriarchal cross set on three steps flanked by floral ornaments. Fair, rough brown surfaces, suspension loop broken off.

An interesting piece but frustratingly rough with details of the design obscured. Patriarchal crosses flanked by floral ornaments were very popular on seals dating from the 9th and 10th centuries, and it was probably around this time that our medallion was made.
