THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 460-450 BC. AR Drachm (18mm, 5.95 g, 11h). Youthful hero Thessalos, his petasos and chlamys hanging around neck, restraining bull right by band held around its head / ΛA above, R-I (retrograde) below, bridled horse prancing right on beaded, double groundline; all within incuse square. Lorber, Thessalian pl. 41, 7 (same dies); BCD Thessaly II -; BCD Thessaly I -; see also Helbing (12 April 1927), lot 1702 = Helbing (24 October 1927), lot 2885 (same dies). VF, lightly toned, reverse double struck. Great metal.
