Claudius. AD 41-54. Fourrée Denarius (18mm, 2.54 g, 1h). Imitating a Rome mint issue of AD 46-47. Laureate head right / DE BRITANN on architrave of triumphal arch surmounted by equestrian statue left between two trophies. Coin News (October 2003), p. 25 (this coin); for prototype: RIC I 34; von Kaenel Type 27; RSC 18. VF, break in plating on obverse, scuffs before portrait and within arch.


Ex Wortham Hoard.

Discovered in 1995 near the village of Wortham in North Suffolk, England, the hoard was almost exclusively comprised of fourrées of Claudius.
