284, Lot: 365. Estimate $150.
Sold for $127. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ Sestertius (33mm, 19.48 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 210. Laureate head right / Caracalla and Geta, each togate, standing vis-à-vis, sacrificing from paterae over altar between them; behind altar, Concordia(?), veiled, standing facing. RIC IV 452a. Near VF, patina stripped, fields heavily smoothed, minor tooling. Rare.

The references all refer to the standing central figure as Concordia, yet on this specimen the figure looks much like Septimius Severus (not a consequence of tooling).
