THRACE, Serdica. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ (20mm, 4.88 g, 12h). Laureate head right / Harpocrates standing left, right hand raised to shoulder, holding cornucopia in left. H&J, Serdica 12.18.30.3; Ruzicka 388 var. (obv. legend); Varbanov 2091-2094 var. (same). VF, green and brown patina, minor roughness and scratches.

The appearance of Egyptian deities on Thracian provincial coinage was sporadic, with types largely limited to Serapis and Isis. The earliest employment of Harpocrates as a reverse design in Thrace appears to be on an issue of Hadrian from Philipoppolis (Moushmov 5078).
