ELIS, Olympia. 83rd-87th Olympiad. 448-432 BC. AR Stater (22mm, 9.69 g, 11h). Eagle flying right, grasping hare with talons and beak / Nike seated right, holding wreath; all within incuse square. Seltman, Temple 91 corr. (dies -/βμ [unlisted obv. die], this coin referenced, reverse illustrated on pl. III); BCD Olympia -; SNG Copenhagen -. Fair, toned, porous. Rare.

From the BCD Collection (not in previous BCD sales).

Seltman lists this coin as the sole example of his die pairing 91 (AV/βμ), but this is in error, as this coin was certainly not struck from obverse die AV. Unfortunately, none of the other obverse dies listed by Seltman are a match, either. Seltman notes that the obverse has countermarks, but there are none evident on this coin, so it is possible that he was erroneously looking at the wrong obverse.
