Justinian I. 527-565. Æ Follis (31mm, 16.18 g, 6h). Theoupolis (Antioch) mint, 2nd officina. Struck circa 537-539. DN IVSTINIANVS PP AV
S C, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / Large M; cross above, stars flanking; B//[ΘV]ΠΟΛS. DOC -; MIBE -; SB -. VF, green patina, uneven strike but the fine portrait excellently preserved. Unpublished.
The S C at the end of the legend is unrecorded. Clearly not barbarous due to the fine style of the portrait and likely not an engraving error as all other elements of the design are more than competently executed, could this portion of the legend stand for Senatus Consulto?
