MACEDON, Dikaia. Circa 450-425/0 BC. AR Tetrobol (13mm, 2.65 g, 1h). Cow standing left on dotted ground line, licking hoof of raised hind leg / Octopus within square incuse. Schönert-Geiss, Bisanthe -; AMNG III - (but cf. 5 for a similar tetradrachm); SNG ANS -; SNG Copenhagen -; HPM -. Near VF, light porosity. Unpublished in the standard references.


The Macedonian city of Dikaia - not to be confused with the Thracian city of the same name - was an Eretrian colony located on the Thermaic gulf. For its coinage, all of which is extremely rare, Dikaia adopted the cow and octopus designs of its mother city, sometimes with the addition of an ethnic.
