Marius. Romano-Gallic Emperor, AD 269. Antoninianus (2mm, 2.87 g, 6h). Colonia Agrippina (Cologne) mint. 1st emission. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Victory advancing right, holding wreath and cradling palm frond in left arm. RIC 18; Gilljam 21 (V VI/R 36); AGK 6a; Mairat -; Cunetio 2507. VF. Rare issue, struck with reverse die of Laelianus. Struck from the same obverse die as the following lot.

The first issue of Marius' coinage at Colonia Agrippina is arguably his earliest, as its reverse dies were originally used under Laelianus (see Gilljam). As such, many of these coins exhibit a high degree of die wear on their reverse, like this and the following lot.
