Julius Caesar. 44 BC. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.28 g). Posthumous issue. P. Sepullius Macer, moneyer. Temple dedicated to the Clemency of Caesar / Horseman (desultor) riding right with two horses, whip in right hand; wreath and palm behind. Crawford 480/21; CRI 110; Sydenham 1076; RSC 44. Fine, very porous, banker’s mark on obverse. Rare.

This coin is actually one of the first issues of Mark Antony, struck shortly after Caesar's assassination. The horseman is believed to be a reference to the Parilian Games, celebrated on 21 April. Both the games and the temple (never constructed) celebrated Caesar's victories and honor.
