KINGS of THRACE. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AV Stater (8.51 g, 3h). Uncertain mint. Struck 3rd-early 2nd century BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / BASILEWS LUSIMACOU, Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear behind; monogram to inner left. Unpublished, but cf. Gorny & Mosch 117 (14 October 2002), lot 125, for another example. EF, some lustre around the devices, small scrape on reverse. ($3000)

The monogram on this piece was engraved in the die after a previous monogram or symbol in the same position was erased. Although the monogram is a little difficult to see, the Gorny example was struck from a fresh die that was not modified and its monogram is clear.
