BYZANTINE. Early Period. Bronze Censor / Incense Burner with Suspension Chain and Hook. Circa 5th - 6th Century AD. The bowl and chain 10.75” / 27 cm in length; the spouted bowl attached at three points by lugs to the long chain, which terminates with a hook. Cf. Ariadne, The Light in the Age of Darkness, p. 53, number 2-3.. Intact, with dark green patina and earthen deposits.
