Andronicus II Palaeologus, with Andronicus III. 1282-1328. AV Hyperpyron (22mm, 4.13 g, 6h). Class IIb. Constantinople mint. Struck circa 1325-1328. Half-length facing figure of the Theotokos, orans, within city walls with four towers; sigla: ΓB | Λ / Christ standing facing, crowning Andronicus II and Andronicus III, kneeling to left and right respectively. Cf. DOC 493-503 (unlisted sigla); PCPC 185 (sigla 22 var. [monogram]); LPC p. 108, 1; SB 2461; cf. CNG 332, lot 438. Areas of flat strike, edge splits, light graffiti and scratches. VF.
