POTTERY. Greek Southern Italian Colonies. c. 4th-3rd Cent. BCE. (170 mm tall x 115 mm wide). A Gnathian oinochoe of fine style with a slat foot, tapered body leading into a squat neck and pinched, flared spout. A handle extends from the lip to the top of the body. The body is decorated with several lines of painted fields, with the central field of a grape vine. To both top and bottom, V patterns, oval beads on a string and S type v-chevrons border the vine. Each field is defined with double lines. Some small hairline cracks. Handle possibly reassembled (but uncertain). Some light wear to paint at fluted rim and in the black fields on the back (handle) side of the piece. The main painted portion is quite attractive. A good example of Gnathian ware. This would make a nice display piece. Website shipping rates do not apply.

From the Sand Collection.
