Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ Sestertius (30.5mm, 21.45 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 138. IMP CAES AELIVS [ANT]ONINVS AVG, laureate head right / TRIB POT [COS DE]S II, PIE TAS/ S C in two lines across field, Pietas standing right, raising right hand and holding acerra; lighted and garlanded altar to right. RIC III 524; Banti 283; BMCRE p. 169, note †. Brown patina, some roughness, pitting, flan flaws, a couple of areas of edge filing. Near VF. Extremely rare. None in CoinArchives, correctly attributed. Banti offers no photograph and lists no example. BMCRE notes that there is an example in Paris.
