1) The Treaty of Paris (41mm, 37.81 g, 12h). By J.P. Droz. Dated 1814 (in Roman numerals). BRITANNIA, head of the Britannia left, wearing crested Corinthian helmet decorated with laurel wreath and lion standing left; traces of G F below; MUDIE D. to right / THE REPOSE OF HERCULES MDCCCXIIII, Bearded nude Hercules, wearing strategically draped lion skin, standing facing on aigle impériale set on ground, with hand on hip and holding club set on ground; DRO(retrograde Z) F. to left, MUDIE D. to right. 2) England Gives Peace to the World (41mm, 38.41 g, 12h). By G. Mills and E.J. Dubois. Dated 1816 (in Roman numerals). GEORGE PRINC REGENT MDCCCXVI, laureate heroic bust left; J. MUDIE D. to left, G MILLS F to right / Winged female alighting right, holding holding globe and presenting it to Britannia seated left with hand on sheathed sword, holding olive branch and resting on shield; ENGLAND GIVES PEACE/TO THE WORLD/1814 in three lines; DUBOIS F. to left, MUDIE D. to right. The treaty of Paris medal once cleaned, the England Gives Peace to the World meal wirh attractive original brown surfaces, a couple of tiny spots of corrosion. As made.

These two medals were issued around 1820 to commemorate England’s triumph in the long and “laborious” struggle to defeat Napoleon. The first medal equates England’s efforts with the mythical labors of Hercules, who, labors concluded, was finally in a position to rest. The second boasts that, by defeating Napoleon, England has finally restored order and brought peace to the world.
