Louis Antoine (1775-1844), Duc de Angoulême was the elder son of Charles X and the last Dauphin of France. In 1823, he lead the French army in the Spanish campaign to support Ferdinand VII of Spain and bolster authoritarian monarchism in Europe. Louis won an important victory on 31 August 1823 at the Battle of Trocadero. He returned to Paris in triumph on 2 December and the city celebrated his victories on the 15th. Louis Antoine was disputedly king of France for about 20 minutes in 1830.
