Andronicus II Palaeologus(?). 1282-1328. CU Stamenon (16.5mm, 0.53 g, 6h). Uncertain mint. The Theotokos standing facing, orans; stylized trees flanking / Facing figures of uncertain saint, to left, and emperor, wearing crown and loros, to right. DOC –; cf. LPC 104, 3 (rev.; for obverse); SB –. Toned, bent, edge split. VF.

An interesting uncertain issue. This coin features stylistic similarities to the coinage of Andronicus II, notably, with the obverse type of the Theotokos flanked by two trees which is found on only one of his issues. This feature is also found on two issues of John V (though with Christ obverses). However, while those issues feature John V with Anna and John VI respectively, this coin has only one emperor on the reverse paired with a saint indicating a sole reign. Additional details such as the legend(s) and other iconographic details that would prove helpful for further identification are not present in satisfactory detail. As such, until a second example of this issue comes to light, its definitive attribution will likely remain elusive.
