LYCAONIA, Iconium. Gallienus. AD 253-268. Æ (28mm, 15.42 g, 6h). Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / She-wolf standing right, suckling the twins Romulus and Remus; overarching branch of tree above, S R in exergue. von Aulock, Lykaoniens 360-3; SNG BN –; SNG von Aulock 5394 (same dies). Mottled green-brown surfaces, smoothing, cleaning marks, pit on reverse. Near VF.

Iconium, now the city of Konya in south-central Turkey, is a bronze age settlement that was refounded as a Roman colony under the emperor Claudius. It was visited by the Apostle Paul on his first missionary journey circa AD 47-48.
