Maximinus II. As Caesar, AD 305-309. Æ Follis (24mm, 7.20 g, 12h). Antioch mint, 1st officina. Struck AD 310. Laureate head right / Genius standing left, holding patera from which liquor flows over altar and cornucopia; *|A//ANT. RIC VI 132a. Dark brown patina, slight porosity. VF. Rare.

From the J. Okun-Dubitsky Collection.

This rare coin is from the last group minted in Antioch for Maximinus as Caesar. The main genius type from this emission was for all the emperors as imperatores. It’s plausible that Maximinus did not want to stress his position as junior emperor since Galerius, the most senior emperor, was dying of cancer and he was preparing to become Augustus of the East.
