JUDAEA, Ascalon(?). temp. Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ (12mm, 1.71 g, 12h). Bare male head right / Crescent and star; [AP] below. RPC I 4876A.3 (this coin). Dark brown surfaces, reverse off center. VF. Very rare.
The attribution to Ascalon was originally made when the reading of the reverse legend was thought to have been AΣ but now, on better preserved specimens, the letters are clearly AP. Arados has been suggested as an alternate minting site but is far from certain since the obverse is anepigraphic and no other legend exists on the reverse to name the city.
Closing Date and Time: 2 August 2023 at 11:57:00 ET.
All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
