LUCANIA, Thurioi. Circa 300-280 BC. AR Nomos (21mm, 7.80 gm). Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with Skylla throwing a rock, SW on the neckguard / QOURIWN in exergue, bull butting right; above, EY and Nike, who flies right and crowns bull with wreath; bird (dove?) between hind legs. SNG ANS -; cf. HN Italy 1879. Superb EF, light scratch in reverse field. Unpublished variety from the rare Nike series.

Both the obverse and reverse are unique in this series. None of the known obverses have letters on the neckguard. None of the reverses have a bird between the bull's hind legs, nor do they have a magistrate's signature of EY.
