AUGUSTUS. 27 BC-14 AD. AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm (26mm, 11.37 gm). Ephesus mint. Struck circa 24-20 BC. Bare head right; countermark: NE in tiny square / Six grain ears tied together. Sutherland Group VI
b; RIC I 481; RPC I 2214; RSC 32b. Toned VF, light scratches.
From the same obverse die as lot 212. The obverse countermark, which may be a marking for Nero, appears to be unrecorded. It is so minute and unobtrusive, it may also be a later collector's cachet.
