CONSTANTINE V? 741-775 AD. AR Siliqua? (0.90 gm). Italian mint? Crowned facing bust showing highly schematic features, crown with pendilia, holding globus cruciger and patriarchal cross / Chi-rho monogram. Cf. DOC II 23 (Naples); cf. SB 1582C. Good VF for type. Unique and unpublished. ($500)

The reference to DOC is given only to provide an example of a coin of similar style. The DOC coin, with a facing bust on each side, was originally purchased by Grierson as a coin of Capua. He later rejected this attribution and provided a very tentative alternate attribution as a Naples silver of Constantine V. The most that can be said is that the DOC coin and this specimen share stylistic affinities and are likely to belong to the same series.
