SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Antioch. Æ (30mm, 13.37 g, 10h). Struck during the reign of Domitian, AD 83-96. Athena standing right, holding spear and shield, in rectangular countermark on a bronze of Galba from Antioch. Howgego 245. Host VF, c/m VF, green brown patina, c/m weakly struck.

From the Richard Baker Collection.

This countermark appears almost exclusively on Antiochene bronze of various denominations from Augustus to Domitian, and was undoubtedly applied at Antioch itself.
