POLAND, Silesia. Breslau. Jan III Romka. 1292-1301. AR Kwartnik (1.41 gm). Facing head of John the Baptist encircled by trefoils / Bishops's cap encircled by stars. Cf. Kopicki 6713. VF, with old collector's mark in India ink. Rare. ($500)

Breslau-Bratislava-Wroclaw was a part of Poland until 1163, after which time it passed into a succession of different nations. First an independent duchy under German influence, from 1335 to 1741 it was: a territory of Bohemia, a Papal possession, Hungarian, Bohemian (again), Austrian, and finally, Prussian (later, German). It was returned to Poland after World War II.
