CNG 109, Lot: 279. Estimate $2000.
Sold for $2200. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

SELEUKID EMPIRE. Antiochos, son of Seleukos IV. 175 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26.5mm, 16.57 g, 1h). Antioch in Persis mint. Diademed head of Seleukos IV right / Apollo Delphios, testing arrow in right hand, resting left hand on grounded bow, seated left on omphalos; monograms to outer left and outer right. SC –; HGC 9, 610c var. (portrait of the child Antiochos). VF, lightly toned, a little roughness. Unique.

From the MNL Collection, purchased from Zuzim Judaea, July 2010.

This issue is likely Antiochos’ earliest from this mint, as it has the portrait of the previous ruler, his father Seleukos IV, and retains the control marks of Seleukos’ last issue at the mint (SC 1342d).
