FRANCE, Troisième République. 1870-1940. Silvered Cast Æ Medal (70mm, 135.30 g, 12h). On the Inauguration of the Pont Alexandre III during the 1900 Exposition Universelle. By Daniel Depuis. Dually dated 1896 (in Roman numerals) and 1900. Female figure descending right from cloud, one hand pointing to bridge behing, the other to radiant portrait of Aleksandr III of Russia, situated in drapery above; to right, personifications of Russia, holding mallet, and the French Republic, holding spear, standing left holding hands and laying cornerstone; PAX below drapery; shield inscribed RF holding back drapery; four-line legend below / Twelve-line legend describing the presence of Tsar Nikolai II and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna, along with several prominent French ministers; above, personification of the Seine reclining left; small child holing banner inscribed with date of the laying of the first stone (7 October 1896 [in Roman numerals]). Edge: (cornucopia) BRONZE. Diakov 1320.1. EF, toned, some light marks. Comes with original ornate presentation box, one hinge missing.
