ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Æ Fals (20mm, 3.17 g, 4h). Overstruck Arab-Byzantine Standing Caliph type. Ilya (Jerusalem) mint. Caliph standing facing / Large retrograde m, crescent above, – and crescent below; retrograde filistin in Arabic to left, trace of stin to right. Goodwin Type 1; SICA I –; cf. Walker, Arab-Byzantine 81 (for type); DOCAB –; Album 3545; ICV 136. Near VF, thick earthen and black-green patina. Overstruck on obverse with lillah on obverse and possibly same on reverse. Interesting transitional coin.
