Otacilia Severa. Augusta, AD 244-249. AR Antoninianus (22mm, 2.83 g, 7h). Commemorating the 1000th anniversary of Rome. Rome mint, 4th officina. 9th emission of Philip I, AD 248. Draped bust right, wearing stephane, set on crescent / Hippopotamus walking right; IIII below. RIC IV 116b (Philip I); RSC 64. EF, toned. Interesting die break on the reverse gives the appearance of a spear sticking out of the hippo’s back.

Ex Frank L. Kovacs Collection (Helios 1, 17 April 2008), lot 358 (where it is cataloged as an unlisted variety with a spear sticking out of the hippo’s back; unfortunately, it is just a die break!).
