KINGS of MACEDON. Antigonos I Monophthalmos. As Strategos of Asia, 320-306/5 BC, or king, 306/5-301 BC. AR Drachm (17.5mm, 4.32 g, 4h). In the name and types of Alexander III. Lampsakos mint. Struck circa 310-301 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, forepart of Pegasos left; monogram below throne. Cf. Price 1382-95 for type; ADM II Series XVIII var. (monogram not listed); CNG E-376, lot 50 (same dies). Near EF, toned. Very rare.

This and the CNG E-376 coins are from ADM II Series XVIII, but have a new monogram, which is a retrograde version of the monogram on Price 1442. These coins are doubly important, as they are struck from the same obverse die as ADM II p. 35, H, from the time of Lysimachos, which proves that the ADM arrangement of the series is correct, that the Pegasos forepart issue immediately precedes the issues of Lysimachos with Pegasos-forepart and lion forepart.
