SICILY, Syracuse. Gelon I. 485-478 BC. AR Drachm (14mm, 4.16 g, 4h). Struck circa 485-480 BC. Horseman riding right / Diademed head of Arethousa right within incuse circle. Boehringer Series IV, 54 (V29/R37); HGC 2, 1359; SNG ANS 12; SNG Copenhagen 616; Nanteuil 329; Pozzi 568; Weber 1570 (all from the same dies). VF, toned, slightly off center, light mark on obverse. Very rare first drachm issue at Syracuse, only known from one die pair.
