Diva Faustina Senior. Died AD 140/1. Æ Sestertius (33.5mm, 22.69 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck under Antoninus Pius, circa AD 146-161. Draped bust right, wearing pearls bound on top of her head / AETERNITAS, S C in exergue, Faustina, holding scepter, seated right in carpentum drawn right by two elephants, which are ridden and led by mahouts. RIC III 1112 (Pius); Banti 26 (same dies as illustration). Fine, rough, green patina. Very rare with elephants right. Banti reports 13 examples with carpentum drawn left by two elephants, but only one example with carpentum drawn right.
