ANGLO-SAXON, Archbishops of Canterbury. Plegmund. 890-914. AR Penny (22.5mm, 1.48 g, 5h). Group II. Circumscription cross/Horizontal-Trefoil 1 (HT 1) type. Canterbury mint; Beorhrthelm, moneyer. Struck circa 905-914/23. + PLEGMVND ΛRCIEP, small cross pattée / BERHT/ELM MO in two lines; three crosses pattée between, trefoils above and below. CTCE P.4(a) = Vatican Hoard 7 (this coin, illustrated in CTCE); SCBI –; BMC –; North 256; SCBC 900 (this coin illustrated). Near EF, toned, trace of red deposit on obverse. Very rare.
