The Peace of Amiens, signed on 25 March 1802, ended the War of the Second Coalition and initiated the only period of peace between Britain and France from the outbreak of hostilities in 1793 to the ultimate defeat of Napoléon in 1815. The peace was not to last. As a result of continued antagonism by Napoléon and by British refusal to implement the terms of the treaty, the conflict was reigned in May 1803.
