SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgird (Yazdgard) I. AD 399-420. AR Drachm (26mm, 3.80 g, 3h). GWDMY (GW/1) mint. Bust right on floral ornament, wearing mural crown with frontal crescent and korymbos; “gw” (mint) in Pahlavi behind head; double-line legend to right / Fire altar with ribbons; flanked by two attendants; “gw” in Pahlavi (mint [part 1]) to left of flames, “zy” in Pahlavi to right, “dmy” (mint [part 2]) in Pahlavi on altar shaft. SNS type Ib2/1a, pl. 50, A20; Göbl type I/1; cf. Mochiri, Petite, 16; Saeedi –; Sunrise –. Good VF. Very rare.

As noted in SNS, during the reign of Yazdgird I, for some time, the mint center DA engraved dies for many mints. Thus, coins with disparate mint signatures can be found with an identical style of engraving (cf. SNS pl. 50, 44–A23). This coin, bearing the mint signature GWDMY (= GW/1) is one such example.
