CILICIA, Aegeae. Claudius. AD 41-54. Æ (25mm, 10.50 g, 12h). Dated CY 101 (AD 54). Laureate head right / AIΓЄ/AIΩN/ CT (
sic) PA (date) in three lines within laurel wreath. SNG France –; SNG Levante 1693 = RPC I 4042.3 (this coin). VF, dark green patina. Only one of 3 cited in RPC, the other two in museum collections (British Museum and Ashmolean). No additional noted in supplements.
From the Collection of Kelly Krizan, MD. Ex Classical Numismatic Group 76 (12 September 2007), lot 1087; Eduardo Levante Collection.
It is noted in both RPC and the Levante catalog that the last line of the reverse may not be a blundered for ЄT(OVC) PA but perhaps the name of a magistrate’s name beginning “Stra–”.
